A Coastal-Inspired Blue & White Table Setting to Welcome the New Year

Hello sweet friends! I’m delighted to introduce something close to my heart—a new series here on the blog dedicated to inspiring table settings for every occasion. As someone who finds so much joy in setting a beautiful table, this series has been a dream in the making. And what better way to begin than with a classic and charming blue and white palette—perfect for ringing in the New Year with grace and style.

This first tablescape features some of the most treasured pieces I recently added to my collection, many of them gifts I received this past Christmas. I couldn’t wait to share them with you—and I hope this mix of coastal elegance and casual charm sparks your own creativity as you gather around the table with the ones you love.

A Seaside Start to the Year

The color story is simple and timeless: blue and white. There’s something undeniably fresh and crisp about this combination, especially as we turn the page to a new year. Whether you’re hosting a weekend brunch or an intimate dinner, this setting evokes tranquility and warmth in equal measure.

One of my favorite parts of table styling is layering. I love combining newer items with cherished pieces I’ve collected over time. This keeps every table feeling unique and personal—like a story being told one plate at a time.

My Blue and White Table Favorites

Here’s a look at some of the beautiful elements that brought this tablescape to life:

  • Wavy Blue Salad Plates – Though the exact set I used is currently limited, I found a similar version from the same brand that has that same whimsical elegance.
  • Classic White Plates – A blank canvas for every meal and the perfect partner to any patterned plate.
  • Spongeware Canape Plates & Pitcher – These were my Christmas treasures this year! I fell in love with their charming hand-painted look. They bring texture and character to the table.
  • Faux Bamboo Silverware – A coastal touch that’s stylish and unexpected—classic but far from ordinary.
  • Raffia-Wrapped Glasses & Wavy Wicker Orchid Basket – These bring in that natural, beachy vibe while still feeling refined.
  • Embroidered Coasters & Cotton Napkins – Details like these make the setting feel thoughtful and intentional.
  • Ceramic Candlestick Holders & Soft Taper Candles – Candles are always a must for me—they create ambiance, warmth, and just the right glow for heartfelt conversations.
  • Small Orchid Centerpiece – My go-to floral accent. Orchids add elegance without taking over the conversation space. I nestled mine in a sweet wicker basket to tie in the coastal tones.

Everything comes together on a beautiful wood dining table, surrounded by cozy, coastal-style dining chairs. There’s a balance here: polished but comfortable, elevated yet approachable.

Tips for Creating a Memorable Tablescape

If you’re feeling inspired to create your own version, here are a few simple tips I always follow:

  1. Stick to a Color Palette – For a cohesive look, keep your colors tight. Here, the blue and white set the tone, and the natural textures play a supporting role.
  2. Mix Old and New – Don’t feel like everything needs to match perfectly. Pairing heirloom pieces with newer finds gives your table personality.
  3. Incorporate Natural Elements – Whether it’s raffia, rattan, wicker, or even a fresh flower arrangement, adding organic textures softens the whole look.
  4. Make Room for Conversation – Keep centerpieces low and simple so your guests can connect easily across the table.
  5. Light It Up – Candles are an easy way to elevate your setting and make any meal feel special.

A New Tradition Begins

Putting this table together was such a joy. I loved blending my new gifts with beloved staples to create something that feels both celebratory and calming. It’s a reminder that welcoming the new year doesn’t have to mean loud parties and big gestures—it can be as simple as a beautiful table, good food, and time spent with people who matter most.

I hope this first edition of my Set the Table series inspires you to create your own beautiful moments at home. There’s something truly magical about setting a space with intention and care—it turns everyday meals into lasting memories.

If you enjoyed this blue and white tablescape, stay tuned—I’ll be sharing a new setting next weekend! And if you’d like a little extra coastal charm in your inbox, I warmly invite you to subscribe to my newsletter for exclusive content and behind-the-scenes peeks into my seaside life.
